FARGO (KFGO) – After the recent rainfall, area rivers are forcing cities to take action due to rising water.
The rising Red River has forced the City of Fargo to close a section of Elm Street N. Public Works crews closed the street between 13th Avenue and 15th Avenue N. Traffic is being detoured to 3rd Street.
The City closes that section of Elm Street when the river rises to 18 feet due to water on the road. The National Weather Service predicts the river will crest at 20 feet sometime Saturday and drop below 18 feet Tuesday.
The City of West Fargo and Southeast Cass Water Resource District closed the north and south gates on the Sheyenne River, diverting the water around town. The City says that is partly due to recent rainfall, and partly due to water being discharged from the Baldhill Dam in Valley City.
