ST. PAUL, MINN. – A Minnesota Senate panel Tuesday considers an ethics complaint Republicans filed against Democratic Senator Nicole Mitchell, who’s charged with felony burglary for allegedly breaking into her stepmother’s home in Detroit Lakes.
Senate GOP Minority Leader Mark Johnson says, “It’s another opportunity for the Democrats to see the evidence. I mean, it’s been very, very public – very blatant. [They] have an opportunity to, after that, take some action on, how are we gonna hold Senator Mitchell accountable.”
Johnson says he doubts there will be an official determination Tuesday but says at any point the Senate “could put some real consequences” on Mitchell.
Democrats say Mitchell has a right to due process — not only in the Minnesota Senate but also in the courts.
